Dr. Eoin Hinchy

Background

Dr. Eoin Hinchy is a post-doctoral researcher at the Bernal Institute.

I’m post-doc with Confirm and an SFI Industry Fellow with Analog Devices International (ADI). I did my undergrad at UCD in Mechanical Engineering, and an industry-based PhD with Lufthansa Technik Turbine Shannon at UL in the old MSSI. Since completing my PhD, I worked for 2 years with DePuy Synthes (Johnson and Johnson) on the low-TRL development of titanium 3D printed orthopaedic knee implants. I returned to Bernal in mid-2018, where I started my post-doc in the Confirm Smart Manufacturing SFI Research Centre.  My research focuses on smart manufacturing, and in particular a concept called digital twin. As part of this research, I manage the Kuka robotic joining suite in the Analog Devices building, while I’m also responsible for developing a number of test-beds to showcase our research. In December 2019, I was awarded an SFI Industry Fellowship with project partners Analog Devices International, which I have been working on part time since March 2020.”
