Clemens Dransfeld

Professor
Background

Clemens graduated in materials science at ETH Zurich in 1990, followed by studies in industrial design at Domus Academy Milano. He spent 12 years in the industry, first at Dow Chemical, and then set up his own design consultancy dyne design engineering, developing award-winning innovations with composites in robotics, medical and high-performance sailing. In 2006, he was appointed professor at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland, heading the Institute of Polymer Engineering, which became known for technology innovation with high-performance polymers and composites. In 2018, Clemens Dransfeld was appointed professor at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology, where he established the Aerospace Manufacturing Technologies Group. It focuses on novel products and processes with advanced polymer composites. Its interdisciplinary research between materials science, engineering and manufacturing establishes the fundamentals for novel transformative industrial technologies.
