Amit Limaye R&D Director of Sustainability
In this role, Amit is responsible for creating product development strategies in collaboration the 8 business units within BD, that will align with BD’s recently announced sustainability goals. He is responsible for building capabilities, recruiting talent and fostering excellence in areas related to sustainable product development.
During his 13 year tenure at BD, Amit has held roles in both technical excellence and program management. He has led multiple business critical projects for BD, ensuring uninterrupted supply of life saving medical devices, especially during the COVID pandemic and the supply chain crisis that followed. Separately, his teams have developed and deployed new technologies, and launched multiple new products for BD. He is a three-time recipient of the Wesley J. Howe Science & Technology Award, the highest Technical Award within BD. Amit is also listed an inventor on 30+ US patents, with additional 25+ applications in various stages of processing.
Prior to BD, Amit worked in both the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device industry focused on Pulmonary Drug Delivery. Amit has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, and B.Tech. in Biotechnology & Biochemical Engineering; where his research topics focused on Nanotechnology and Molecular Biology respectively.
Outside of work, Amit volunteers his time and skills to address issues related to Social Determinants of Health (SDOH), with specific focus around healthcare access. He serves as the vice-chair of the Board of Directors at BVMI, a non-profit organization that provides free healthcare for working un-insured. There, he led a critical “What-if” committee at the height of the COVID pandemic, the efforts and results of which were acknowledged in FORBES . On a personal level, he enjoys sailing, reading on a wide variety of topics, and vegetable gardening. He lives with his family in New Jersey, where they are on a journey to make their home a zero-waste-household.
